In Mr. Masson’s Media class we were assigned to get into two groups and talk about a topic for a PSA. The topics for the PSA stretched across the board. I’m not sure if there wasn’t one topic that we didn’t touch upon. But because of all the uncertainty of what each group wanted to do, one of the students had an idea for us to do the PSA as a class and base it on stereotypes in the high school “scene.” She brought the idea up to the rest of the class and we all thought that was a good idea. Everyone in the class had to bring ideas and skills to the table in order for us to narrow it things down and make it look really good. For me I didn’t bring many skills to the table but more ideas for the class to talk about. I also brought my OCD which helped make things look a little more professional. I sort of wish I could have brought a little more to the project, I just feel like the skills that I have either have no way to improve the project or just aren’t as good as someone else’s. But when it comes to speaking my mind and I feel strongly about something I will state it so my opinion about ideas will come out and I feel like that’s how I helped out with this project. The whole class had a lot of good ideas and for us to all work together and come to a consensus was hard at times. We all have very strong personalities and that sometimes could get in the way of coming up with a final decision. But for the most part I feel like we got past that and tried to put different ideas together. When it comes to working with a group of people I felt as if it would be a little harder at times but I feel like well all worked very well together and that’s why we ended up with an amazing product. Overall I think this is one of my favorite projects by far. There aren’t many things that I disliked about it. There were a lot of decisions we had to make which sometimes got annoying but because of those little decision we were able to make something really good. On the other hand I liked everything else the photo shoots were amazing, being able to watch the progress on the print-ads was really cool also. I don’t see how you could really dislike a project like this, if I was given a choice of writing an essay or doing another PSA like this I would definitely choose the PSA, even though there’s a lot more work you have to put in to it. Because of the PSA you learn more than just your topic, you learn about advertizing itself. Not only did the class show me a lot about advertizing but so did this project, but the project showed it in a different way. We were the advertisers so it should us the other side of the spectrum. With the class you learned how bad advertizing can be and with the project it showed you how creative and you might have to be. It also showed me how the simplest piece of advertizing can take so much effort and time. This class definitely opened up my eyes a lot more to the whole media spectrum and I can definitely say that I have learned a lot in this class and I learned it in a fun and interesting way, which is pretty rare.
